Chemical Peels Q & A

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is a facial where the providers apply a chemical solution that contains a type of acid. This solution induces your skin to exfoliate and peel off, revealing smoother, brighter, radiant new skin. It also stimulates collagen production, which helps your skin look and feel firmer and more elastic.

There are three types of chemical peels: light, medium, and deep. The Spa on Par 3 offers Obagi Blue Peel Radiance™, which is a light-strength peel.

How can a chemical peel help my skin?

A chemical peel can address a variety of skin issues and imperfections. These issues include:

  • Acne scars
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Melasma
  • Sun damage
  • Sagging skin
  • Brown spots
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Blemishes
  • Enlarged pores

What should I expect during a chemical peel?

The providers administer the Obagi Blue Radiance Peel in her office. She first cleans your skin and may apply a topical anesthetic to your face. She then brushes on the chemical solution. You will probably feel some stinging and tingling.

The peel stays on for about 10-20 minutes, and when it’s washed off, Dr. Kellcy applies a soothing ointment, thick moisturizer, and heavy-duty sunblock. If needed, the providers may prescribe mild pain relievers after the treatment.

What should I expect after a chemical peel?

After your chemical peel, your skin will most likely be red, slightly swollen, and irritated. Pain relievers can lessen your symptoms. You may develop blisters and increased swelling within 48 hours after the peel.

Next, your red skin peels off over the next several days. They provide detailed aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing and optimal results. Avoid all sun exposure. About a week after the treatment, you can wear makeup to mask the redness.

After your old skin fully peels, your new beautiful skin will emerge, with fewer lines and wrinkles, reduced brown spots, smaller pores, and a brighter, more youthful texture. Usually, one peel is enough to provide pleasing results. But a series of four to six peels provide the maximum benefits.
